The medicine of softness

…the secret ingredient to healing ourselves.

Pink and white roses in bloom

Lately, I've noticed myself edging close to burnout… It's ironic because I left my job partly to avoid overworking.

But each time there's an imbalance in my life, Ayahuasca seems to illuminate it, and one that she keeps teaching me is this: Healing work is a delicate art of maintaining a balance.

But balance isn't achieved by rejecting work and resting constantly. It is the union of them.

And here are a few examples I observed from Ayahuasca about this polarity.

The making of Ayahuasca

The medicine is made by pairing the two polarities: the masculine yagé vine + the feminine chacruna leaves.

If the balance falters and there's too much of one, not enough of the other, the medicine does not function.

How purgatives detox

Purgatives (the bitter detox medicine) cleanse more effectively when combined with the sweetness of panela (raw sugar cane).

Tobacco + mambe

The strength of the grandfather tobacco is carried through the feminine wisdom of coca leaves.

Structure + surrender

Again and again, the medicine teaches us the same truth about life: that polarity is necessary, and growth moves through the union of it. The yin + yang, the masculine + feminine.

Structure + surrender = Harmony.

So… build space for softness, intentionally

The lesson here is to create intentional voids in our lives.

Go out in nature, & play without guilt. Lean into the companionship. Invest time on the "silly" things that bring you joy.

Balance is not laziness. It is sustainability.
